In 2013, a collaborative exhibition featuring American and Spanish artists will be exhibited in Portland, Maine and Madrid, Spain. For the show -- “This Flat Earth / Esta Tierra Plana” -- artists from each country have created works on paper in response to the “flattening” of the earth, from the colonial history between the two countries beginning with first contact, to the transformation of economic and cultural opportunities as a result of global interconnectivity.
The exhibition was co-organized by Jeff Badger of Portland-based Tetra Projects and Madrid-based Rubicon1. The artists were asked to create a single new work on a standardized vertical sheet of A3 paper in response to the concept of the exhibition. The show opens at Embajadores con Provisiones in Madrid on January 3rd with a reception for the artists, and closes on January 27th. The shows opens at Rose Contemporary in Portland, Maine on February 1st and a reception will be held for the artists on February 8th from 5-7pm. The curators plan to arrange a Skype connection at the galleries so that the artists can virtually attend the receptions in each country.
A limited edition screenprinted poster for the show created by Rubicon1 is being sold online to raise funds to support the costs for the exhibition. The poster can be purchased through the Tetra Projects site by clicking here.
